How Winstons Sugar House Started, and Where We Are Going

I started gaining interest in sugaring by helping out some family members. This interest sparked a very sweet side of my life and kicked off my journey.

At first I started with soda cans and straws tapped into a tree later on I upgrade to a gallon milk container as trees were flowing fast and producing sap like crazy.  I tried boiling over a fire and failed as I had no clue what I was doing at my young age of 12. The following year I hung buckets and tubing and gave the sap to family members as they boiled it down into the syrup I could not figure out how to make myself.

In 2013 my father (Craig) and I decided to start sugaring after visiting and helping out our cousins sugar house for the season.

Since that day the sky has been then limit for our operation. We are currently up to 2200 taps and constantly looking to expand our tap count and reach more customers with our value added products (maple candy, cream, sugar, cotton candy, and maple straws) this product line is constantly growing. We now offer privately labeled products for business or other sugar houses.

After boiling on our first evaporator, a 2x6 sunrise unit, for about 6 years we had outgrown it and needed a bigger evaporator. As we searched around we looked into several options and ended up going forward with a Dominion and Grimm tornado fuel efficient wood fired 3x10 evaporator. At this time I had approached D&G about becoming a dealer as no one around me carried their products. After being accepted we decided that we had the space and ability to offer a showroom that is open year round from 7-4pm Monday through Friday and by appoint or emergency during season.

Since that day we have done nothing but grow to offer the best products and services to our customers as quickly as possible. We are now authorized dealers for D&G, Bosworth, Becker pumps, Farmblox, and APVT. We are excited to share this journey with all of the great customers and can not wait to see what’s up ahead for our business and we are glad to have such great customers we could not do it without you.
